Castlemaine is a mecca of trails for biking. They're everywhere surrounding the town.
Principally there is the Great Dividing Trail, that runs 120km from Bendigo to Castlemaine to Daylesford to Ballarat. And you can even ride to Bacchus Marsh if you wish. The choice section of the trail is the section between Daylesford and Castlemaine (preferably in that direction as it is down hill). There are copies of the GDT map available at the Tourist Information building - more commonly known as the Castlemaine Market Building - for a minimal fee of $7.00.
The surrounding bush areas of Castlemaine are full of trails. At the Moonlight Flat Pine Plantation, there is an interconnecting network of technical singletrack which is also proudly known as the site of the 2003 World Single Speed Championships. There is no definitive map of these trails in existence, but if you stop in to the shop we can point you in the right direction!
